Gulmarg, where winter transforms the landscape into a pristine wonderland adorned with glistening snow and towering peaks. Tucked away in the Himalayas, Gulmarg in winter is a dreamlike destination where adventure, beauty, and tranquility converge to create an unforgettable experience.
Whether you’re just a mad romantic weaving tales of love and passion at the very sight of the coniferous trees against snow capped mountains or simply like basking in the calm and serene of the warmth of the winter sun on lush green landscape or carving tracks on the slopes of fresh powdery snow, exploring hidden trails in the wilderness, Gulmarg promises a winter getaway like no other.

Gulmarg is renowned as one of the premier skiing destinations in the Indian subcontinent, attracting thrill-seekers from around the globe. The vast expanse of powdery snow and steep slopes offers the perfect playground for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts of all levels. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginner, Gulmarg’s ski resorts and training facilities cater to every skill level, ensuring an exhilarating experience on the slopes.
But the must do activity for family vacationers is a ride in the Gulmarg Gondola. The Gulmarg Gondola is the second longest and second highest cable car in the world. It’s in 2 phases. Phase 1 of the gondola ride is from Gulmarg to Kongdoori. Tickets need to be bought separately for both phases and are available online. The second phase is from Kongdoori to Apharwat peak.

It so happened that the day I was supposed to witness this lovely marvel of science and human talent, the weather was awfully bad and morning news stated that the gondolas would stay closed. But thankfully, the sun shined upon my stars, and Phase 1 opened up. After standing in queue for about an hour, we managed to get in, and thankfully enough even phase 2 opened. Without wasting any time at phase 1, we moved to phase 2. And the weather went wry again!
Before we knew it, the snow had transformed into a storm. The entirety of the population which was earlier making snowmen was huddled up at the boarding point of the Gondola to start descending, but unfortunately the Gondola service had to be paused. The next six hours will stay etched in my memory forever.
It was an absolute fun day with oodles of adventure. My love for mountains knows no bounds, irrespective!
And Gulmarg, truly feels like an extraordinary journey through snow-kissed paradise.
