Phobjikha Valley is located in the Wangdue Phodrang district in Central Bhutan. A huge valley which is majorly marshland and green pastures. With a backdrop of the Black Mountain Range, the scenic splendour of this place is unique. Most folks usually do a day trip of Phobjikha Valley from Thimphu. But in my opinion, the best way to explore Phobjikha Valley and witness it’s serene beauty is on foot.
Gangtey Nature Trail
The Gangtey Nature Trail starts at the Gangtey Monastery and goes all the way till Phobjikha Valley (and further, if you wish.)
The hike starts by going downhill from the monastery, then through dense pine forests, leading to meadows filled with wildflowers, rural villages and huge grasslands with cattle munching upon what I’d like to believe would be the yummiest of grass.
As you walk through the dense green forests, there’s a faint fragrance of pines lingering in the fresh air. There are no sounds other than that of the dried twigs and pine nuts crushing beneath the trekking shoes and the chirping of birds, and maybe the unsteady breath.
