Sun, Sand and the Red Sea – The Sharm-El-Sheikh escape

“Dolce far niente is a way of life”

..that every traveller in the beautiful beach city of Sharm will swear by

I knew Sharm-el-Sheikh would be beautiful, but I wasn’t prepared for that moment from my airplane window. As the plane began its descent into Sharm el-Sheikh, I pressed my face to the window, half-expecting endless stretches of bare desert. Instead, I found myself tracing the neat, surprising geometry of this seaside oasis – pale roads cutting through rugged hills, clusters of whitewashed resorts and villas, and shimmering turquoise glimpses of the Red Sea hugging the shore in perfect arcs. From above, Sharm looked like the perfect master plan where desert gold and sea blue meet with crisp edges and manicured grace.

Once on the ground, that same sense of care spills into every corner. Sharm-el-Sheikh isn’t the wild, chaotic beach town – it’s polished, organized, and deeply relaxed all at once. The palm-lined avenues are spotless. Roundabouts are neat with date palms that sway gently in the warm breeze. It all feels well-orchestrated, yet laid-back in spirit.

Resorts here spill straight onto soft sands, where the clarity of the Red Sea makes it one of the best places on earth for diving and snorkelling. They’re mostly full board packages, and that really makes the complete experience worth the while.
Eat, Drink, Dive, Chill, Repeat ..

Where we stayed

Sharm-el-Sheikh was the last of our Egypt trip. We stayed at the Hilton, and although it was just a 2 nights, 3 days stay, honestly we had the best time, and very much the perfect sweet ending to the Egypt trip.

The afternoons were spent just lounging on the beach chairs, sipping cocktails and watching the glittering turquoise sea felt like Nirvana.

But Sharm isn’t just about lazy days on a sun lounger. Naama Bay, its main hub, hums with easy-going life – beach clubs by day, lantern-lit promenades by night. There’s always music in the air – the gentle thrum of house beats, or the hypnotic swirl of traditional drum circles if you wander into the right café at sunset. Also the perfect place for shopaholics looking for chic on a budget, as it houses a huge shopping complex with multiple shops selling first copies of high end brands.

In the end, Sharm-el-Sheikh is that rare place where the desert’s stark beauty softens at the edge of the sea, that feels both polished and effortlessly carefree. It’s a town where neat palm-lined roads lead you from luxury resorts to bustling local souks, where days drift by on sun‑drenched beaches and nights sparkle with rooftop laughter and sea breezes. Whether you’re here for the world-class diving, the hush of the Red Sea at sunset, or the friendly chaos of its markets, Sharm makes sure everything is taken care of so you can simply let the warm wind and deep blue do the rest.
